Υπόθεση:
Η πραγματική ιστορία του Γκάβινο Λέντα, ενός χωριατόπαιδου και γιου βοσκού από τη Σαρδηνία, ο οποίος καταφέρνει ν’ αντιμετωπίσει, ν’ αντισταθεί και, εντέλει, να ξεπεράσει τη σκληρότητα, τη βαρβαρότητα, τη μιζέρια και την οπισθοδρομικότητα της κοινωνίας όπου μεγαλώνει, και να γίνει διακεκριμένος επιστήμονας. Αυτή η εξέγερση στην πατρική καταπίεση, παρά την αντίθεση του βίαιου και βάναυσου πατέρα στις επιλογές που κάνει ο νεαρός, συνθέτει μια πανέμορφη, λυρική, αν και σκληρή ταινία, όπου το μίσος με τη στοργή εναλλάσσονται.
