The Blue Things were formed in the sedate college town of Hays, Kansas in 1964 as The Blue Boys changing name in 1965.

Initially the were a folk rock group but were influenced by the Merseybeat sound of the first wave of the British invasion. In this style they released a string of pounding, driving singles in 1965. In 1966 and the aftermath of the Beatles` Revolver they changed their sound radically to full blown psychedelia complete with a middle eastern sounding organ and guitars tuned like sitars. Their psychedelic live shows became legendary locally and often contained a fair smattering of Beatles` covers. Their sole album was released at the zenith of their career.

In late 1966 Val Stöecklein had a nervous breakdown and had to be hospitalised and left the band. He was replaced in early 1967 by Burton and later Larzalere came in on drums. Following the release of their last single, a cover of The Spencer Davis group`s "Somebody Help Me" the band simply faded away.
