“Cannonball Adderley Quintet in Chicago” (1959),
a classic straight ahead driving session, features the Miles Davis Sextet of 1959 without the leader. Cannonball Adderley’s exuberant alto crosses the streams with John Coltrane’s relentlessly exploring tenor - a sweet and sour perfect mix - both riding high on New York’s rock-solid rhythm section with pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb.
These musicians, joined by Bill Evans, would record the classic album” Kind of Blue”, with regular employer Miles Davis, one month later.
This gem is highly recommended. You have to love this album.
