The aim of this book is to introduce the reader to the study of European Art History, through an examination of the major styles. In such a brief space it is impossible to mention every notable artist, let alone every notable work. Examples are chosen simply to epitomize important styles, and I have deliberately refrained from mentioning works that could not be illustrated
