I really wanted this movie to be good. Oh man. It had everything going for it. It has some kind of weird alien at the bottom of the ocean. It has good name actors, it has a good director. Hell it has Huey Lewis for some reason. Some queen of Latifa even.

But the movie fell flat. Flatter than that dude who wanted to prove the earth was flat.

Mostly the movie tried too many things cinematic without concentrating on the story. Or perhaps the soap opera relationship details that need not be in a movie about underwater aliens hiding in a gold sphere. These things work great in a novel, a soap opera, and a script that can bring out these details without taking the viewer out of the movie. This script, well no.

Either way the movie has been streamlined into focusing on the alien sphere and the effects it has on the ones wondering what it is.

I thought it would be neat to see how long it would take to do an edit. This one was 3 days from start to finish. Picked the movie out of a wikipedia sci fi list and went to town.

Changes:

Some details and scenes cut to move the story along. Less relationship arguing between 2 characters. Less of Dustin Hoffman’s (the first hoff) character’s constant complaining, removed some supposed comedic moments, concentrated on the alien storyline with less baggage.
