Synopis:

Vienna, 1906. A passionate love story develops between Franz Lobheiner (Alain Delon) and the young Christine (Romy Schneider). Lobheiner is, however, currently seeing the married Baroness von Eggersdorf. Upon learning of his wife's infidelity, the Baron von Eggersdorf provokes a duel with Lobheiner. But the former is no longer a real threat to the Baron. Lobheiner is now passionately in love with Christine. How will this love quartet end?

Viena, 1906. Por algum tempo, Franz Lobheiner (Alain Delon), um jovem tenente do exército austríaco, teve um caso de amor secreto com Lena (Micheline Presle), esposa do Barão Eggersdorf (Jean Galland). Cansado deste relacionamento, Frantz decide terminá-lo e transfere seus afetos para Christine (Romy Schneider), uma jovem aspirante à cantora de ópera, que tem uma visão idealista do amor. Christine logo percebe que ama a Frantz mais do que qualquer homem na Terra e ele sente o mesmo por ela, despertando em Lena um ciúme amargo.
