Ian McCormack was a young New Zealand surfer, travelling the world looking for the best surf.

He'd got as far as Mauritius and was scraping a living doing dive training and a bit of night fishing so that he had the money to do yet more surfing.

One night, when he was still learning how to night dive, he met some Box Jellyfish, amongst the most deadly of all creatures. He was stung multiple times, but was abandoned and had to make his own way to hospital despite feeling the poison spreading and disabling him.

He died in hospital, despite the best efforts of the doctors.
