Overview

Back in the days when UndergroundGamer was the (imho) best retrogaming site to meet with other retrogame collectors and document, preserve and exchange old games, there were many teams or individuals dedicated to certain projects. One of these teams made The DOS Collection, aka TDC, aka Total DOS Collection, otherwise known as The Complete PC MS-DOS Collection, a project to gather all the oldies from the first decade of IBM PC gaming under DOS platform.

I was lucky enough to witness release 4 of TDC and I recently found a copy of it. I've decided to repack and share it here and there for everyone's enjoyment. I don't remember if they were able to do a release 5 before UG had to shut down.

I know there's a release 1 floating around. This fourth release is much superior to any of the previous ones. There is another big DOS collection like 25 GiB large, but it covers more years with less amount of games, like three thousands, so it's different. Maybe someone will merge all the different collections around...

* 5,987 games; yes, almost six thousand games. That includes revisions and alternates; it's hard to say exactly how many different games there are, but pretty sure about at least 4,000 (a quick regex told me there are 4,500 different names without years or flags).
* 11 years from 1981 of 1992 gaming almost perfectly named and classified in TOSEC style, with as much information as possibly available.
* Playability first: the team ensured that games were easily playable through DosEmu or DosBox.
* 330 docs, hints, solutions, codes and whatnot for games inside this collection.
* Unmodified TDC4, just repacked for better torrent consumption.

To limit the number of files inside the torrent, I've compressed each of the folders in the original release as a ZIP file, with the last two years further split into a few more files by alphabet. You can get the complete information about the release in _info.zip before deciding if you want to download any of the years. 19xx and 198x are folders for games with unknown release year.
