In February 2016, during the airing of the eighth series, a ninth series was commissioned and filming began on 14 March 2016 and ended on 14 July 2016. The news was confirmed by Pere Agullo - a spokesperson for Filming Spain, the local production company in Spain for Tiger Aspect Productions. The series will consist of 9 episodes.[11]

Sherrie Hewson (Joyce Temple-Savage), Jake Canuso (Mateo Castellanos) and Tim Healy (Les/Lesley Conroy) were the first characters announced to make a return to the show.
