Synopis:

Budapest 1956. A group of Westerners try to leave the city when Soviet military occupy the country. But the airport is closed down and they have to take a bus to the border. At the border they are stopped by red tape - and Major Surov. The reasons are sketchy, but it seems that the major is romantically interested in one of the westerners, Diana Ashmore.

Sinopse Pt Br:

Budapeste, novembro de 1956. Uma revolta força a União Soviética a uma intervenção militar. Diana Ashmore (Deborah Kerr), uma inglesa divorciada, tenta tirar do país Paul Kedes (Jason Robards), um húngaro com quem está envolvido. Ele está com um passaporte inglês falso e foi ferido durante a rebelião, sendo que se for pego novamente será o seu fim, pois no passado já tinha sido torturado pelos russos. Entretanto ela tem de enfrentar o major Surov (Yul Brynner), um oficial soviético que submete todo seu grupo a uma série de entraves burocráticos, procurando de toda forma achar algum fugitivo.
