Em D.I.R.T.: Origin of the Species o jogador assume o papel de Eva Cash, chamada Dirt, que fica nocauteada após uma festa. Ela acorda em uma cela de prisão e a primeira coisa que ela vê é um inseto gigantesco que come um policial morto. Agora sua missão é descobrir o que aconteceu com ela.

Este jogo é um típico shooter em terceira pessoa. Eva caminha através de níveis principalmente lineares em busca da saída. Claro que ela tem que matar muitos da oposição no caminho que consiste quer de insetos ou humanos. Para atingir este objetivo Eva ou usa armamento padrão ou suas habilidades PSI, por exemplo, telecinese ou controle remoto de balas. Às vezes, há também pequenos quebra-cabeças de chave. Depois de cada nível o jogador é avaliado e recebe pontos que podem ser reinvestidos em novas armas ou munição.

In DIRT: Origin of the Species the player assumes the role of Eva Cash, called Dirt, which is knocked out after a party. She wakes up in a prison cell and the first thing she sees is a giant insect that eats a dead cop. Now your mission is to find out what happened to her.

This game is a typical third-person shooter. Eve walks through mostly linear levels in search of the exit. Of course you have to kill many opposition on the path that consists either of insects or humans. To achieve this goal Eve or uses standard arms or their PSI abilities, for example, telekinesis or remote bullets. Sometimes there are also small key puzzles. After each level the player is evaluated and receive points that can be reinvested in new weapons or ammunition.
