The Fabulous Thunderbirds are an American blues rock band formed in Texas in 1974. After several years in Austin, Texas on the blues scene, The Fabulous Thunderbirds won a record deal with Takoma/Chrysalis Records and later signed with Epic Records. FTB attracted attention only by the fact that they included compositions in the "new wave" style in the repertoire. But as it turned out, it was just a clever move. FTB's first two albums, released in 1979 and 1980 with Keith Ferguson on bass and Mike Buck on drums, were initially not in demand. These recordings are made in the spirit of the traditional melodic pop music of the 60s with a noticeable influence of the blues. FTB played a mix of Texas blues with Swamp Blues-style harpist virtuosity, the sound of Slim Harpo and Lazy Lester, which they covered. Fabulous Thunderbirds tried their hand at hard rock as well, and it fully justified itself, FTB equally attracts both fans of traditional rhythm n blues and those who are looking for a hard sound in music. The third album, FTB Butt Rockin' (1981), brought the band even closer to the old rhythm and blues sound with the addition of keyboards and horns.
