Lo stick in copertina avverte: " Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Metallica". Guardate il look: cappelloni e giacche sfrangiate. Ascoltate il sound: la tradizione dalla grande musica roots americana messa a ferro e fuoco da riff torridi che prosciugheranno l'ennesimo bicchiere di bourbon messoci sul bancone dalla cameriera del locale dove abbiamo parcheggiato il nostro autoarticolato. Cinque minuti di sosta prima di ripartire per consegnare il carico di legname chissÃ dove in Pennsylvania.

Greg Strzempka non scherza, dopo l'ottimo "Assmaster", serve un altro intruglio spaccabudella: tre quarti di southern rock, uno di metal e una spruzzata di blues texano di infimo ordine. A miscelare il tutto gli dÃ una mano Elise Steinmann, una leggiadra fanciulla che usa spesso la bottleneck guitar come una ritmica. Gli altri sguatteri del locale sono il bravo chitarrista solista Mark Middleton e la ritmica del duo Morton/Pantella. L'impatto sonoro dell'opener "Don't Dog Me" ci costringe a sedere al tavolino invece di portar fuori la bottiglia di Jack Daniels: il feedback delle chitarre Ã¨ potente e convincente, Greg come cantante prende di brutto e il suo refrain Ã¨ doppiato dalla slide di Elise, l'assolo heavy di Middleton fa il resto: il tuo piede destro non smette di battere il ritmo. Canzoni come "Joy Ride", "Get Off My Jollies" e "San Loco" appiccano il sacro fuoco del rock sudista su impalcature di metallo fino a farle diventare roventi. Addirittura il riff sabbatiano di "Shiny Mama" ha bisogno della voce d'eccezione del reduce Ray Gillan dei Badlands per farla diventare un'oscena declinazione boogie. "Bent For Silver" pare ricreare quell'attacco a tre chitarre che tanto ci aveva fatto amare il sound degli scolari del professor Skynyrd con le fughe a catena delle soliste. Il brano piÃ¹ bello in programma Ã¨ "Geronimo", aperto da fendenti di bottleneck come usa fare Ry Cooder nelle sue colonne sonore per i film di Walter Hill, poi il poderoso riff apre ad una ballata "roots-metal" con il coro che ci assicura di aver visto il fantasma del grande capo apache andarsene a spasso per la Fifth Avenue... e per finire Middleton ci delizia con un assolo che piÃ¹ confederato non si puÃ².

Ma questi omaccioni hanno tra le fila la bella Elise che provvede ad addolcire il suono e lenire la nostra stanchezza per le ore di viaggio che ci attendono: "Love Comes Loose" Ã¨ una ballata semi acustica che riempie d'armonia la bettola di quart'ordine zittendo i camionisti, i bikers e i vagabondi con il bicchiere sempre vuoto. La splendida tessitura della sua bottleneck guitar sorretta dal dobro ci fa capire che siamo davvero in America e che ci siamo scordati il nostro compare nella cabina dell'autoarticolato cromato ad aspettare quella famosa bottiglia di bourbon.
