Joscho Stephan - Four of a Kind (2023) [gnodde]



Joscho Stephan met the Romanian violinist Costel Nitescu in 2006 at the guitar festival in Patrimonio on Corsica. After a passionate jam session, the two decided to form a joint band in the future. As is so often the case, it did not come to that at first.

It was not until 13 years later that they met again by chance at a concert in Paris and shortly afterwards they had their first joint performances in Germany with the Joscho Stephan Trio. Joscho's fellow musicians Sven Jungbeck (rhythm guitar) and Volker Kamp (double bass) were immediately enthusiastic about Costel's playing and the idea of a joint CD was quickly born. Costel fitted seamlessly into the trio, so that a musical unity was immediately created. This led directly to the title of the album: 'Four of a Kind'.

In addition to typical swing and jazz classics, the album also contains many original compositions that transcend the boundaries of 'jazz manouche'.
