Lee Gates è il conduttore di uno show televisivo che si occupa di finanza, commenta l'andamento della borsa e consiglia investimenti, il tutto in un clima ridicolo e urlato, fatto di siparietti con le ballerine in paillettes e jingle al limite del volgare. In fondo, dei soldi che possono guadagnare o perdere i telespettatori, a Gates non importa niente. Almeno fino a quando un giovane investitore, Kyle Budwell, che ha perso tutto quello che aveva, irrompe in trasmissione, si barrica nello studio durante una diretta, gli punta una pistola alla testa e lo costringe dentro un gilet imbottito di esplosivo.
