My note : If you’re interested in the genre, this series deserves notice if only because of how unusual it is. The author has been writing for decades and took part in the gay rights movement at its hardest times. Even though his characters’ personalities can be exaggerated and archetypal, you can tell he pulls them from his own experience with real people. I get the feeling he has fun playing with the clichés. On top of that, his writing is wickedly funny. Don’t expect buckets of corny romance, and the relationship isn’t always pretty, but it builds in a complex and interesting way. I find it refreshing in this stilted genre.
