The story introduces DI Galena and Sergeant Easter. As with so many fictional detectives, they are both troubled individuals, damaged by their past. Both back stories are interesting and the characters are well developed in the book. Knowing the area of the fens, the author has portrayed the area well. The sometimes bleak beauty of the coast, together with a town that has more than its fair share of troubled young people due to socio economic reasons.
