There are no heroes in The Getaway. As a matter of fact there is no-one who is remotely likable, trustworthy or who contains a shred of decency. It’s about a group of criminals who are just as dangerous to their colleagues as they are to the innocent victims who cross their paths.

THE GETAWAY is the classic story of a bank robbery gone horribly wrong, where the smallest mistakes have catastrophic consequences, and shifting loyalties lead to betrayals and chaos.

This book is dark and violent. Murder and mayhem abound with barely a backward glance. There is plenty of bloodshed and inhuman brutality … in fact, there is little else! But Thompson is a master of the genre … fast paced and unapologetically violent. The writing is clean and vivid (well, it became a little off kilter at the end). Most critics believed he botched the ending.

This book was the basis for the classic Steve McQueen film of the same name, as well as a 1994 remake with Alec Baldwin.
