Today’s basic drug prohibition laws were all put into American law between 1906 and 1918 by the KKK and its allies. These allies included a venal nascent organized medicine, pretending that whole herbs were the same as the newly invented refined concentrates, and a State Department intent on creating banana republics, that is, intent on criminalizing human tribal culture for the colonialist slavers.
These five lies, as grotesque as ’separate but equal’ but still current law, are the basis of today’s mass imprisonment:
1. Human herbalism is abnormal;
2. Human herbalism causes crime;
3. Whole herbs are the same as refined concentrates;
4. Pharmacological evidence is irrelevant in drug cases;
5. The pure physics of supply and demand can be overcome with legislation.
It was the Dulles brothers, postwar founders of the CIA, who turned the CIA into structural allies of the covert drug trade, made artificially valuable only by our Prohibition. The first major CIA operation was the rigging of the 1948 Italian elections, using the pro-fascist Mafia to assassinate the Italian center-left, just as Mussolini did. The same pattern has repeated itself in the succeeding decades in Guatemala, Vietnam, Bolivia, Peru, Italy and Afghanistan, which are all discussed in detail.
“Dan Russell’s book is on par with Howard Zinn’s People’s History of the United States. This historical account needs to be in every educational institution, beginning with high school, to tell the other side of the story of our loss of earth-based ecstasy. This book brilliantly shows how our healing relationship with plant allies came to be replaced with the prevailing political agenda of drug propaganda. I recommend this great book, which I personally couldn’t put down as it engages like a historical / political novel, for all schools of free thinkers. It is the central text in our homeschool for my teenagers this year!” Jeannine Parvati Baker, author of Hygieia: A Woman’s Herbal; Conscious Conception: Elemental Journey Through the Labyrinth of Sexuality; Prenatal Yoga & Natural Birth
