The theme of the film is loosely based on the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana of the Hindu epic, Mahabharata. The film\'s score and soundtrack were composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The cinematography of the film was handled by Santosh Sivan, who made his debut in the Tamil film industry.
