I am uploading this partial BD release because I am a noob. I have never done a BD release before, or really any release. Therefore, I am releasing only episode 1 in the hopes that someone will let me know if I am doing something terribly wrong. If you think I made a poor decision in rendering the audio or video, or with the subtitles, feel free to say so. If you are interested in helping a noob out, please read the wall of text below.
Video comes from \[philosophy-raws\]. The video was scaled down from the 1080p raw and is 10-bit 720p\. The file size is relatively small\\. The audio is ~256kbps AAC\\\.
Subtitles come from WhyNot and Commie. I do not know what the etiquette is when using other groups' subs. Maybe it is frowned upon to use other groups' work at all; please tell me if this is the case. WhyNot typesetting was used for the main episode, and Commie typesetting was used for the OP/ED. The WhyNot script was used unless the Commie script a) made more sense in context or b) flowed better. I believe both groups used Funimation as a base.
Neither group used honorifics; I added honorifics when they conveyed information that did not really have an appropriate English equivalent. For example: I kept the translation of "Koizumi-sensei" to "Mr. Koizumi." But Commie/WhyNot used the English line "This is an order from your elder" when "senpai" was used in the Japanese audio. I changed the translation to spell out "senpai" in English since "senpai" has certain connotations that would be otherwise be lost.
\The command used the do the downscaling in ffmpeg was "ffmpeg -i 1.mp4 -vf scale=1280:-1 -c:v libx264 -preset medium -crf 15 -tune animation -profile:v high10 -level 5.0 output.mp4" I think that I will raise the CRF to 17 or so.
\\This series is not Monogatari, with its vector graphics and clean looking art. There is no film grain as far as I can tell. The source material does not do a good job of eliminating banding when it uses post-production effects with gradients. These considerations point towards lower file sizes being appropriate. People who want perfect video will probably download a 1080p release anyway.
\\\I hate the fact that you normally have to choose between 128kbps trash audio and >200MB FLAC files when choosing a release. There should be a middle ground.
I will not be releasing each episode as I finish them; the next release will be a full release.
