"First Love" is Utada Hikaru's third single, re-cut from her first album of the same name.
"First Love" was used as the theme song for the dorama Majo no Jouken.
The single was released in two versions: an 8cm single as well as a standard 12cm single.
Originally, different versions of the same product were given different placings on Oricon charts.
The 12cm single reached #2 on Oricon charts while the 8cm version reached #6. Both versions stayed in the charts for 13 weeks.
The 12cm sold 500,890 units and was the #42 single of 1999, while the 8cm version sold 303,430 units and was the
72 single of the year. Combining the sales of both versions, the single had 804,320 sales, which would have made it the #18
single for 1999. The single reached #26 on World Charts for single airplay, and reached #20 for sales.
In 2016, after the release of Utada's sixth Japanese studio album Fantome the song started to rank within the top 100 on
the Recochoku download charts.
