It’s Golden Week in Japan, and the boys head West to Kyoto to meet with Hayato’s father, as well as see the sights. But with the holiday rush, Director Hayasugi has been asked to fill in at the museum, so the boys go off to sightsee in the meantime. While Hayato tries to check out all of the Shinkansen trains at Shin Osaka station and the others check out their respective areas of interest, the villainous Byakko develops a new plot to destroy the Shinkalions. Will the SUEI Kyoto Branch complete their first Shinkalion operation?

Notes:
This episode features the appearance of the recently-retired 500 Type EVA, as well as a very funny Evangelion scene. The broadcast version (which I have used here) features the original theme song to Evangelion, Cruel Angel’s Thesis, as well as a reference/parody of the scene where Gendo Ikari is addressed by the members of SEELE. This is great, as Shinkalion is in itself highly referential to Evangelion, though considerably less grim. The YouTube release and apparently subsequent replays of the episode do not include the Evangelion music, so enjoy. Thanks to Leopard Raws for the raw.

Note 8/11/2018:
Months after translating this, I realized I mistranslated an Evangelion reference. When Shashot flips out upon seeing the 500 Type EVA, he says what I thought was "Micha dame" but turns out it was, "Nigecha dame" which, of course, means "I MUSTN'T RUN AWAY!" -- a classic line from Evangelion. I also had a transcript from this episode and IT was wrong. I blame his weird voice modulation. Anyway, here in the interest of completion and since the full on EVA episode has aired is a corrected version.
