Some useful info for this episode:
Just like in the 14th episode, there is almost next to nothing information about Kyoto itself, but you can learn about sakuramochi. So! __Sakuramochi__ is sweet pink-colored rice cake with a red bean paste center, and wrapped in a pickled cherry blossom leaf. Rice cake is called "mochi" and cherry blossom, like you already might know, is called "sakura". Therefore, sakuramochi.
Different regions of Japan has different style of sakuramochi. For example Kanto-style (Tokyo and such) is anko (red bean paste) wrapped in cylinder-shaped pink mochi:

Kansai-style (Kyoto, Osaka), that our cute little Kyoto penguin eats in this episode, is the same anko, but wrapped in a ball-shaped pink mochi:
