Encoder notes: the source for Hello World movie is most likely 2K @ 12 bit 4:4:4 master, which was graded into 1080p @ 4:4:4. That caused noticeable lineart aliasing, turning into a sharp and detailed image. I've applied eedi3+nnedi3 AA upscale to 2K for luma plane and downscaled back with less sharping kernel. That helped me to reduce aliasing on lineart and high frequency noise. Result was mixed up with source to slightly bump smoothed lineart (70% of filtering for 30% of source). But that was a minor problem, while chroma is just a disaster. Apparently a chain of conversions applied: point resize to 960x1080 (4:2:2 transformation) and then bicubic resize to 960x540 (4:2:0). That caused strong chroma aliasing, which can be spotted well at red lines and bright colours in general. To fix that I've used solution from doop named "Reconstruct". It tries to fix mangled chroma planes by mangled and source luma. That script was a challenge for me to understand how to use it, thanks to tonik and DJATOM for help with it. So I've reconstructed chroma planes and converted it to 4:2:0 (with MPEG2 chroma placement). After luma and chroma is merged, I applied approximately 19 more scene-filtering events. For example, scrolling stabilization and deflickering and texts protection. The source seems to have some good post-process for banding prevention: a lot of small high frequency noise, that make it look like more detailed image. So as there is no spotted banding in particular, I just slightly denoised it and encoded with HEVC Ma10p with transparent quality settings.
