Q: Why are these raws good?
A: Better overall picture quality than any existing release, especially anything based on the Blu-Rays.
ComparisonsQ: Why are these raws bad?
A: A few decimation problems here and there (fixed in v3!), NC versions of OPs/EDs spliced in to make encoding easier,
faint residual combing not handled (fixed in v2!), ugly MPEG2 noise and heavy static grain everywhere because I refuse to nuke it,
certain point-resized-looking flashback scenes not handled (fixed in v2!), codec (HEVC 4:4:4 10-bit) that may be difficult for some people to play, huge filesizes.
Q: Actually, yeah, why is the filesize so big??
A: Very noisy source, and the chroma planes are as big as those in a normal 1080p release.
These encodes won't play correctly in VLC on Windows—they'll appear too dark. You may want to include a disclaimer to that effect if you make a release using these raws.
Episodes 168-171 are a bit glitchy. That's how they were on the original DVD.
(Sorry for the multiple versions, but encoding DVDs is hard. I'm now putting more time into QCing the encodes after they're finished, so we should be fine going forward.)
