There's a translation that wouldn't make sense that I made make sense. In the scene where they're taking a picture, Ryota actually asks, "What's one plus one?" and the answer is, "Ni!" (two).

This is a common way to get people to smile in pictures, similar to how saying "cheese" does it in English speaking countries, though some people do say "Cheese" in Japan.
