I was made aware today of a discussion on the AnimeTosho page; to end all speculation, v2 has been a planned work in progress from several days of test encodes from multiple scenes to reduce filesize. svt-av1-psy "variance boost" will increase bitrate on frames that are too different from the source. This was disabled for some scenes that nf destroyed anyway.
