The band was founded in 1991. Initially known as Deep River (they changed their name to Quidam only in 1995), their music is a blend of hard rock and blues. The band has gone through numerous vocalists, but their style has remained unchanged. However, significant changes occurred when Ewa Smarzynska (flute) joined the band. This is when positive (from a progressive rock perspective) changes became noticeable. The style of the compositions and sound began to evolve, developing toward more sophisticated forms of rock. Songs became longer, and the lyrics began to appeal to discerning listeners, fans of Camel, Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and Renaissance. From the very beginning, the musicians set themselves a very interesting goal: to find their audience by performing only complex music and to gain critical acclaim.
