Diana Krall étudie le piano dès son plus jeune âge avant de remporter le concours du Vancouver International Jazz Festival qui lui permet d'étudier la musique au collège de Berklee à Boston.
Dans les années 90, elle s'essaie dans un trio jazz à New York avant de rencontrer des producteurs influents qui l'aident à sortir un premier album, "Steppin'Out", en 1993.
Diana Krall rencontre un premier succès d'envergure avec son disque hommage à Nat King Cole, "All For You" en 1996.
L'excellente pianiste parvient à insuffler aux standards qu'elle reprend une patine extrêmement chaleureuse, due à la tessiture ample de sa voix et aux arrangements concoctés par Johnny Mandel, pour l'album "When I Look in Your Eyes" qui remporte plusieurs nominations aux Grammy Awards.
Diana Krall s'essaie par la suite à la composition : après le triomphe du disque de reprises jazz "The Look of Love" en 2001, elle écrit ses propres pièces pour le disque "The Girl in The Other Room", qui font connaître la Canadienne à l'international.
Diana Krall, chanteuse devenue interprète légitime de jazz vocal, ne fait pas oublier ses talents à la composition de chansons originales.
