A 40 ans, Andy Millman quitte son emploi plutôt bien payé afin de poursuivre son rêve : devenir acteur. Mais la tâche n'est pas aussi aisée qu'elle n'y paraît et Andy se voit rarement confier des rôles importants. Convaincu de son potentiel de star et rôdé à l'échec, il écume les plateaux de tournage et tente par tous les moyens de décrocher quelques répliques. Affublé du pire agent de la profession, Andy joue plus souvent les figurants. Heureusement, il peut compter sur le soutien de son amie Maggie, éternelle célibataire malchanceuse en amour, même si cette dernière ne rêve pas de célébrité.


Saison 1

Épisode 1 : Ben Stiller

Andy Millman takes a part as an extra on a movie about the Balkans conflict which is being directed by Ben Stiller. Andy attempts to win
himself a speaking role by befriending Goran, the Croatian man whose
story is being told. Andy is drawn into the friction between Stiller and
Goran and must eventually choose between defending his new friend at
the expense of his career or putting possible success ahead of his
conscience.

Épisode 2 : Ross Kemp and Vinnie Jones

Andy is working on a television programme with Ross Kemp and as usual, he hasn't got a line, so Maggie persuades him to ask Kemp if he can get
him a line of dialogue. Ross Kemp is keen to convince Andy that his
hardman image on TV is also true in reality. Andy isn't convinced,
especially when Ross is confronted by Vinnie Jones.

Épisode 3 : Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet hopes her role as a nun in a film about the Second World War will guarantee her an Oscar. However, her meeting with Andy and
Maggie leads her into a very embarrassing situation. Andy also finds
himself in an embarrassing situation when a date with a fellow extra
doesn't quite turn out as expected.

Épisode 4 : Les Dennis

Andy gets a break when he lands the part of the Genie in Aladdin alongside, Les Dennis. Andy soon finds himself in a dilemma when he sees
Les' young fiancé in a compromising position with a stage hand. Andy
decides to tell (a naked) Les what he has seen.

Épisode 5 : Samuel L. Jackson

Andy is trying to avoid a fellow extra who is 'dull'. When the extra helps to get Andy a line of dialogue, Andy mentions he 'owes him one'.
The extra suggests that they should go out for a meal to return the
favour. Meanwhile, Maggie is going out of her way to show she isn't
racist, whilst on a date with a black actor.

Épisode 6 : Patrick Stewart

Andy has written a script for a sitcom. While working on a production with Patrick Stewart, he gives him the script and asks if he can help by
passing it on to people in the business. Stewart is able to "make it
so". The BBC shows interest and Andy is asked to write a pilot. While
working on the script with an editor from the BBC, who Andy finds
difficult to tolerate because he is "too gay", Andy makes the mistake of
mentioning this to Maggie.
