ERA 1 1978-1984 As Bs and Rarities s’ouvre sur une version edit du hit Fool (If You Think It’s Over), tiré du premier album de Chris Rea. Ce titre avait remporté un grand succès aux États-Unis et lui avait permis de décrocher une nomination aux Grammy Awards en 1979 dans la catégorie du Meilleur nouvel artiste.

Cette sélection se prolonge par un grand nombre de raretés, dont des faces-B, des titres en langues étrangères et des mixes alternatifs. Au cours de cette période, Chris Rea a publié six albums studio, parmi lesquels Wired To The Moon, dont l’artwork de cette anthologie reprend des éléments visuels.
