Lorsque Roberto Diaz, l'agent spécialisé en bioterrorisme du Pentagone, est envoyé enquêter sur une attaque biochimique présumée, il trouve quelque chose de bien pire : un organisme au potentiel de mutation extrême capable de causer une extinction. Il l'a contenu et l'a enterré dans un stockage frigorifique, sous un dépôt militaire peu utilisé.

Aujourd'hui, après des décennies à pourrir dans un sous-sol oublié, le spécimen a trouvé son chemin vers l'extérieur et est en pleine frénésie d'alimentation mortelle. Seul Diaz sait comment l'arrêter.

Il traverse le pays pour aider deux agents de sécurité involontaires — l'un ancien détenu, l'autre mère célibataire. Au cours d'une nuit éprouvante, le trio improbable doit trouver comment mettre cette horreur en quarantaine à nouveau.
