The Lovin' Spoonful is an American rock band that formed around 1965 from the remnants of the folk group The Mugwumps after some of its members formed The Mamas & the Papas. The members were John Sebastian (vocalist and leader), Zal Yanovsky, Joseph Campbell Butler, and Sam Boone. In 2000, their names were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group existed until 1968, and during this short time managed to release six albums and a significant number of singles, among which the hit "Summer in the City" (August 1966, No. 1 in the US) still remains a radio staple. They also wrote the score for Woody Allen's first film, "What's Up Tiger Lily?"
