На самом деле в музыке "алхимиков" всегда присутствовала смесь различных стилей: джаз, фолк, поп, латино, нью-эйдж, соул и т. д. Ник и Грег оба выросли на британском поп-роке 60-х годов. Отличие их состояло в том, что Вебб изучал джазовую гитару в музыкальном колледже Лидса, а Кармайкл – классическую гитару в аналогичном лондонском заведении. Вообще-то первая инкарнация "Acoustic Alchemy" включала в себя Вебба и Саймона Джеймса, но впоследствии Саймон уступил место Кармайклу, и таким образом сформировался "классический" состав "Акустической алхимии". Первое время дуэт сотрудничал с "Virgin airlines", записывая музыку для развлечения пассажиров трансатлантических линий. В середине 80-х "Acoustic Alchemy" заключили контракт с лейблом "MCA", на котором выпустили дебютный альбом, "Red dust and spanish lane". Под этой крышей были выпущены еще два полноформатника, несколько напоминавшие творения "Sky". В 1990 году "акустические алхимики" перебрались на "GRP". Первый же альбом, изданный этой фирмой, "Reference point", получил заслуженное признание слушателей и был номинирован на "Грэмми". На следующий год вышел диск "Early alchemy", содержавший ранние (конца 70-х) совместные эксперименты Вебба и Кармайкла. Помимо этого "GRP" переиздала все три работы "Alchemy", выходившие на "MCA". Вплоть до 1998 года дуэт исправно продолжал записывать альбом за альбомом, пока не случилась трагедия. 6 февраля 1998-го Ник Вебб скончался от рака, так и не успев дожить до выхода "Positive thinking". Спустя два года Грег Кармайкл решил возродить проект "Acoustic Alchemy". При этом он значительно расширил состав группы, пригласив в него музыкантов, с которыми "Алхимия" сотрудничала и раньше. В 2000 году в команду вошли Джон Парсонс (гитара), Майлз Гилдердэйл (гитара), Франк Феликс (бас), Терри Дисли (клавишные) и Тони Уайт (клавишные). Новый контракт был заключен с лейблом "Higher octave", на котором коллектив дебютировал с диском "The beautiful game". Звучание "Acoustic Alchemy" на этом альбоме значительно изменилось в сторону электроники и местами имело эсид-джазовые нюансы. В 2003-м вышел первый концертник "алхимиков", "Sounds of St. Lucia", сделанный на основе выступления группы для "BET Television". И в том же году появилась третья студийная работа коллектива на "Higher octave". Альбом "Radio contact" отличало использование вокала на одном из треков (до этого момента все записи "AA" были только инструментальными). В 2007-м выходит ещё один альбом под названием "This Way". По мнению гитариста Грега Кармайкла, This Way – самая джазовая работа Acoustic Alchemy. В полной мере проявилось уникальное мастерство второго гитариста Майлза Гилдердэйла – на этом альбоме очень много его гитарных соло. Несмотря на все эксперименты и нововведения, движущая сила Acoustic Alchemy – две акустические гитары - остается неизменной. Яркие запоминающиеся мелодии, уникальное мастерство музыкантов – инструменталистов – все то, за что Acoustic Alchemy любят многочисленные поклонники группы – в полной мере присутствует на этом альбоме. Со своей стороны посчитал необходимым создать данную раздачу взамен имеющихся поальбомных и "сомнительной" полной дискографии присутствующих на трекере.
