Crushing Sun hails from sunny Portugal and ‘TAO’ is their debut full length album. Sound and style wise we are talking everything from modern metal to death metal. The label “Progressive death metal” could very well stick to Crushing Sun like glue but I think that the term ‘Modern progressive heavy metal’ is more suitable.
Even though that the band has developed their own sound and style other bands comes to mind when listening to ‘TAO’. Gojira and Neurosis are two of them but you might find others when you give this CD a spin.
Well... not being a huge fan of all that modern stuff it was kinda hard for me to get into this album but after a couple of listens the music blossoms and most of the songs has something to offer. They shift from very laid back music to metal and back again but still with a intention to create interesting music.
The biggest surprise for me is the last track; “Strip and Deceit” a very heavy sludge/doom track that suddenly explodes into a kind weird sounding track... but I like it.
Give this band and album a try if you dare.
