Группа AT VANCE была образована в 1998 году гитаристом-виртуозом по имени Olaf Lenk (который до того играл в нескольких проектах, среди которых VELVET VIPER и CENTERS) и вокалистом тех же CENTERS Oliver Hartmann. В апреле 1999 года группа подписывает контракт с Shark Records и выпускает дебютный альбом «No Escape», который выходит в сентябре. Музыканты в своем творчестве пошли по стопам таких классиков, как Yngwie Malmsteen, DEEP PURPLE, RAINBOW и DIO. Главной креативной силой в составе стал Ленк – автор практически всего материала и большой фанат классики и Мальмстина. Таким образом, стиль, в котором группа стала работать определял именно он. А стиль этот – классический немецкий "мягкий" пауэр на стыке Helloween с гитарными инспирациями от великого Ингви и отклонениями в классику. Диск напичкан мощными риффами, запоминающимися мелодиями, красивыми соляками и, самое главное, блестящими партиями замечательного вокалиста Хартманна. Быстрые гитары в легко узнаваемой манере, там и сям мелькают цитаты из классики. Обработка знаменитых Времен Года "Лето" Вивальди отличается просто неукротимой энергетикой, а небольшая инструменталка No Speak подтверждает древнюю истину о наличии родственных отношений между краткостью и талантом. Версия вечно злободневной песни ABBA "Money" заставляет сердце биться быстрее. Lost in your love звучит трогательно и то же время торжественно, а Power and Glory - лучше любого гимна. Сильная сторона диска - полное отсутствие неудачных номеров. Альбом был очень хорошо принят европейскими слушателями, но особенного успеха он достиг в Японии.
