Альтернативное рок-трио «Fastball» было основано в Аустине, штат Техас, США. В состав группы вошли: Майлз Зунига (вокал/ гитара), Тони Скальзо (вокал/бас) и Джои Шаффилд (барабаны).
До момента формирования трио «Fastball» Шаффилд и Зунига являлись участниками поп-рок группы «Big Car». Группа выпустила первый и последний альбом «Normal» в 1992 году для лэйбла «Giant Records». Но вскоре коллектив расспался в связи с возникновением проблем у их лэйбла.
Позднее и было сформировано трио «Fastball», первоначально группа носила название «Magneto U.S.A.». Концертные выступления и последующие статьи в прессе помогли коллективу за малый срок привлечь к себе популярность. В 1995 году группа получила премию «Austin Music Awards».

Call it the gradual acceleration of Fastball. The Austin-based trio's debut, Make Your Mama Proud, was mostly forgettable, anonymous alternative pop. Their sophomore release, All the Pain Money Can Buy, upped the ante with more confident songwriting and a bona fide classic in "The Way." Album number three is The Harsh Light of Day, by no means a classic but another step forward. The first single, "You're an Ocean," benefits from a sky-high hook and the infectious piano pounding of Billy "Get Back" Preston. Speaking of the Beatles, the influence of the lads from Liverpool is pronounced on Harsh Light's production flourishes; the band opens up to heavier use of strings, vibes, and lighthearted steel guitar. Highlights include the slightly Southern-fried ballad "Don't Give Up on Me," "Wind Me Up" (which sounds like a haunted, forgotten Elvis Costello tune), and the jaunty opener of "This Is Not My Life." --Jason Josephes

Recorded at Viewpoint Studios in Austin, the bulk of the album was produced by Mike McCarthy (Spoon), with production contributions from Sheryl Crow songwriter Jeff Trott ("Our Misunderstanding") and Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger ("Someday," "Red Light"). The album was mixed by the legendary Bob Clearmountain.

Best known for their 1998 smashes THE WAY and OUT OF MY HEAD, Fastball return with its fifth album LITTLE WHITE LIES. The album showcases the melodic songwriting and Vilcan mind meld harmonies that have become the band's trademark. They bring the rock on trippy numbers like ALWAYS NEVER and explore new styles with the super danceable title track. THE MALCONTENT is a jangly Simon & Garfunkel type meditation on modern life and SOUL RADIO closes the album with a beautiful counterpoint between lead singers Miles Zuniga and Tony Scalzo.
