After the issue of his most avantgarde, progressive and most acclaimed album "La Huerta Atomica" in 1976, Miguel Rios embarks on a journey through Egypt, after which it becomes a record that would be his third and final PROGRESSIVE album "Al-Andalus" which would see light in 1977 through the Polydor label, the same year that Triana recorded their "Hijos del Agobio".

AL-ANDALUS is one of the pioneering acts in Spain in merging rock with flamenco and Arabesque sound. Thus, the clear theme that opens the album (1) "Al-Andalus" and the title to the album sounds arabesque and merged with the rhythm of rock and the wonderful voice of Miguel Rios.

The cosmic and atmospheric track (2) "Azahara" has an intro where Samia recited in Arabic, this is perhaps the issue with most progressions and rhythmic changes of the disc.

(3) "A Day in Mojacar" composed of two parts and there is an air of classical music where the piano has an important role together with the arrangements of Luis Fornes.

We also have two tracks with a certain jazz-rock flavor, written by two guitarists of Guadalquivir, Andres Olaegui with (4) "Balada de la Alondra y el Gavilan" and Luis Cobo Manglis with the curiously titled composition (6) "Guadalquivir", strangely because it was the name of the group that was formed by Olaegui & Manglis. In both cases we hear two great guitar solos.

On the track (5) "El Cinco a las Cinco" we find a tribute to the memory of Federico Garcнa Lorca, and at that time the track was censored and prohibited for radio.

The closing theme (7) "La Blanca Oscuridad" is a theme based on "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" by maestro F.Tarrega. Miguel Rios and Margaret Watty wrote lyrics. It's a track where the electronic and acoustic look balladesque.

And "La Blanca Oscuridad" is not "The Ode to Joy", but this is an adaptation of the final movement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.

In 1978 Miguel Rios directed and produced a series of concerts in Spain, called "La Noche Roja" and sponsored by Red Box (jeans brand) where he played with such groups as Tequila, Salvador, Triana, Iceberg and Guadalquivir...
