Boomkat: Jeez, as if last week's bomb for Sub Static wasn't enough, man of the moment Mathew Jonson comes back this week for more with this latest 12" for Richie Hawtin's minus imprint - quite possibly one of the most anticipated and salivated-over dancebound twelves of the last 12 months.Anyway, onto the tunes. ‘Decompression’ is a grinding club killer, slowly building up with a gritty bassline and sparkly synths that drops in the middle to allow a dark and cinematic string line to cover the track, a definite monster. Flip over for ‘Ultraviolet Dream’ which is a subtler track, but with a more prominent Discoid bassline that stabs away under the hybrid techno/electro beat that he just does so well, while soaring percussion a la ‘Jazz Is The Teacher’ rises and falls in the background and all the while a creeping synth/string line builds up across the track, until it’s almost orchestral at the end.
