As a member of 3 times DMC world champion team C2C, Pfel is one of the nicest tablists in Europe right now and with a pedigree to boot. However we all know scratch skills don’t always equate musical skills, but in the case of Pfel he’s got skills for days, as exemplified in his new mix, Random. Aptly titled as it’s probably the most random mix I’ve heard in a long time, but also a pretty damn nice one at that. Instead of following templates of tempo, styles and what not, Pfel opts for the random option and proceeds to mix, cut and mash up 48 tracks in 60 minutes hopping styles, bpms and moods as if he was running the 100m hurdles and without numbing your brain with scratching, juggling and assorted turntable malarkey. Squarepusher’s My Red Hot Car flirts with Shadow’s Monosyllabic, Beastie Boys take on Mr Scruff, Finesse rides a Neptunes beat, the Chemical Brothers make a milkshake with Kelis, Premo takes Mr Oizo on the Flat Beat and your mind and body thanks you for feeding it a dope dose of musical variety, linked together by the randomising of a fine DJ. If you’ve not yet discovered the aural pleasures of C2C and Pfel then get Random and feel better for it.
