Перед нами свежее веяние на мировой сцене - Canadian Melodic / Technical Death Metal. Жанр молодой, ещё не взыгравший всем буйством красок, но как по мне, уже давно давший прикурить лучшим представителям шведской сцены. Ему характерны "особый" рычащий вокал, сложная полифония - мелодия завуалирована, она не воспринимается так буквально как у шведов и уж тем более не щеголяет слащавостью, как у финнов, а прорывается наружу изнутри, заставляя слушателя быть более сконцентрированным, внимательным. В бриджах часто можно заметить аж три гитарных линии, идущих вразрез общей картине - такого вообще нет в европейской музыке, ну и в добавок - сложные соло, с обильным использованием низких нот. Настоящая мужская музыка.

Именно такой является музыка Archons. Сравнивая этот альбом с "Day Into Night", можно сказать, что "The Cosequences Of Silence" - вольное продолжение старой идеи. Красивое продолжение. Также меня не покидало чувство, что Archons каким-то чудом перекликается с шедевральным двутрековым промо-альбомом 2006 года от Augury, но, видимо, для верификации мало будет одного прослушивания. Пойду на второй.

What do you get when you put together amazing musicians, all skilled at what they do with a very fresh writing style? Archons. Archons are fucking brilliant. Each musician executes their instrument with such precision and technicality that it's hard to swallow it all in one listen. This is definitely an album that deserves tons of plays.

Sйbastien, the vocalist, is an outstanding vocalist. He sounds so much like Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity), but he adds his own flare to give him a unique, recognizable and enjoyable sound. His growls are relentless and never lose power so you can tell these guys went into the studio with the intention of making an album nothing short of perfect. And they did. This guy is a monster on the microphone and the bass.

Simon & Francis, the guitarists, are in the top 5 best pairs. These guys are fucking ruthless and determined to kick your ass with these riffs. They lay down some heavy (not distorted out the wazoo like a lot bands) rhythm guitar then stack the beastly sound with powerful and melodic leads. The leads aren't corny or too melodic. They fit the political atmosphere of this album perfectly. These guys know exactly when a change in tempo is necessary and what pitch a lead needs for that section. Flawless. These guys are some of the best.

Here's the biggest highlight of the album: Christian, the drummer. God damn. This guy is a god. His lightning-fast blast beats are so perfectly placed as well as his machine gun double bass. Every hit on the snare, cymbal, tom or bass drum was picked with a mindset of perfection. There's not a single out of place fill, blast beat and so on. Just like the beastly guitarists, Christian can stop on a dime and go from a melodic break to his death metal blast beats then back to his insane double bass with precision. The execution is beyond words.

On top of the INCREDIBLE musicianship, the production is perfect. It's very crisp and there's not a single instrument dominating the others. You can't hear any triggers on the drum kit and you can't hear the sound of the strings when they scale the fretboard. Perfect.

It's really hard to describe how amazing these guys are. They fuse progressive, melodic death and thrash metal with ease. Every transition is done with perfection in mind, as I said. It really is hard to find a band other than Protest the Hero who can get incredibly technical without ruining the musicianship for the sake of technicality.

These guys know what the fuck they are doing and it's going to take a lot to top this album. From the intro to the conclusion, this album never loses power and never ceases to amaze me. It kicks ass from start to finish, something a lot of bands can't do.

I'm surprised there's only one review for this monster. This album needs to get the popularity it deserves. Get this album ASAP if you're a fan of melodic death, thrash and progressive. You will not be disappointed.
