Майкл Флетли родился 16 июля 1958 года в Детройте в в семье ирландских эмигрантов и вкусил «все прелести» жизни простого бедного паренька. Танцевать начал с одиннадцати лет, в семнадцать лет выиграл Ирландский национальный конкурс танца. С 1980 года был участником ирландской фолк-группы The Chieftains, где играл на флейте. В 1994 году Флэтли стал одним из главных исполнителей и хореографов танцевального шоу Riverdance. Шоу состояло из традиционного ирландского танца с элементами степа. Майкл Флэтли, вместе с другой известной танцовщицей Джин Батлер, был основным исполнителем в Riverdance и также играл на флейте. Шоу имело большой успех в Ирландии и за ее пределами.

"Lord Of The Dance" - это танцевальное и музыкальное шоу, основанное на невиданном ранее мастерстве исполнения ирландских танцев. Это представление является танцевальной интерпретацией одной из самых известных ирландских мифов. Флетли представляет великолепное переложение ирландских народных легенд на язык кельтского танца в изысканном современном стиле.
Человек, завоевавший всемирный успех и заработавший огромное количество денег благодаря своему супер-представлению "Lord Of the Dance", в который раз не остановился на достигнутом и решил замахнуться на постановку поистине гигантского по всем параметрам шоу.
Местом проведения был выбран Гайд Парк в Лондоне. Флетли хотел сделать такое шоу, которое вошло бы в историю как величайшее танцевальное действо на Земле. Для репетиций Майклом был выбран огромный ангар на военном аэродроме в Бэссингбурне, где была возведена поистине гигантская сцена. Для шоу "Feet Of Flames" были придуманы новые музыкальные номера, новые песни, были сшиты новые костюмы.
Все происходящее было законспирировано и до дня премьеры ни один фоторепортер и ни один журналист не были допущены к секретам шоу, так как 25 тысяч человек должны были быть поражены размахом представления и неожиданным количестом сюрпризов именно в процессе представления.
25 июля 1998 года, в лондонском Гайд Парке состоялась премьера нового шоу Майкла Флетли под названием «Feet Of Flames», которая собрала 25 000 зрителей! Представление было анонсировано как "подведение итогов" шоу "Lord Of The Dance" и продумано до мелочей: танцевальные и музыкальные номера, костюмы, декорации, свет, пиротехника и, конечно, потрясающе сработанная команда. Всё это не могло не завораживать зрителей, эмоции которых превзошли все возможные ожидания: и стар, и млад, вопили и прыгали, как заведенные, полностью перенимая энергию, так и льющуюся на них со сцены!
Шоу "Feet Of Flames" является версией "Lord Of The Dance", претерпевшего "апгрейд". Несмотря на то, что "Lord Of The Dance" - шоу само по себе яркое, новаторское и захватывающее, всё же новое представление стало намного "безумнее", сильнее и круче по всем параметрам. Те, кому посчастливилось увидеть "Feet Of Flames" в тот знаменательный день, никогда не забудут того, что происходило на сцене в Гайд Парке. Это было поистине волшебство. Уже при первых звуках музыки 25 000 зрителей слились в одно целое: зал словно вибрировал в едином порыве, люди разных возрастов не отрывали взгляд от сцены. И взрослые, и дети были окутаны сказкой, ощущение которой давало буквально все: и то, что они видели перед собой, и то, что слышали.
Все шоу проносится на одном дыхании, оно поражает своим размахом, техническим оснащением (60 км кабеля, 3000 прожекторов, 23 видеокамеры, в том числе "летающие" со скоростью 50 км/ч камеры и т. д.), удивительной безупречностью и, безусловно, уникальным, сработавшимся коллективом.
Одним из ярчайших сюрпризов представления стало появление на сцене всей команды музыкантов, которая обеспечивает музыкальное сопровождение шоу. Забойный номер "Celtic Fire" - эдакий ирландский рок'н'ролл - ввел публику в экстаз! В исполнении этого джема участвовал и сам Майкл, исполняющий партию флейты, и великолепные скрипачки Майреад Несбитт и Кора Смит.
"Это ирландская музыка, но это рок'н'ролл. Никто и никогда раньше не играл таким образом ирландскую музыку", - говорит Флетли. "Celtic Fire" - потрясающий номер, легкий и задорный, заставляющий зрителей верещать от восторга и приплясывать на своих местах. И только потом начинаешь понимать, как чутко нужно музыкантам чувствовать друг друга и сколько требуется чек-саундов, чтобы вот так , "в лёгкую", зажечь подобный "сумасшедший" феерический "Кельтский огонь". Но, собственно, в этом и заключается подлинное искусство.
Шоу заканчивается захватывающим действом - номером "Планета Ирландия", где 100 танцоров представляют своё отточенное мастерство, выполняя немыслимые танцевальные заморочки на четырёх ярусах сцены.

К слову:
1. Сцена для шоу Feet of Flames — одна из самых больших в мире. Ее ширина составляет почти 70 метров, а высота — около 23 метров. В финале представления танцоры выступают на четырех различных уровнях.
2. Для записи представления на видео были использованы 23 камеры, чтобы снять действие во всех ракурсах. Режиссером съемок стал Дэвид Маллет (David Mallet).
3. Понадобилось 10 грузовиков, чтобы перевезти сцену с места репетиций в Кембриджшире на место премьеры в Гайд Парке Лондона.
4. Сто три танцора вместе с Майклом Флэтли принимали участие в премьерном показе, который стал самым большим танцевальным шоу в Европе.
5. Премьера Feet of Flames, состоявшаяся в Гайд Парке 25 июля 1998 года, впервые собрала вместе танцоров из двух первых трупп Lord of the Dance.
6. Для премьеры было запасено 300 пар обуви.

13. В конце 1998 года, после окончания тура «FOF» Флетли объявил о том, что покидает сцену. Но уже менее, чем через год, поклонники творчества Майкла с радостью узнали о том, что Король Танца готовит мировой тур «Feet Of Flames - 2000».
