Japanese experimental / avant-garde film directed by Katsu Kanai.
A popular poet named Goku Katsumaru becomes depressed after his editor jokingly calls him a sell-out to his times. Determined to become a poet for all eternity, he encounters a team of pickpockets plotting to steal time and later a bird doctor researching the internal clocks of migrating birds in order to free himself from the bonds of time. Using the knowledge he gains, Goku embarks on a strange journey from the suburbs of Tokyo all the way to the Galapagos Islands in a quest for total transcendence.
The final chapter (“Heavenly Chapter”) of Kanai’s Smiling Milky Way Trilogy. Surreal, mythic, and obsessed with conquering the god of time.
