Originally released on cassette in 1987 and reissued on CD in 1992 with bonus track. This time the bonus track (Mantis) included on the CD release was a track that had been recorded and mixed at the same time as the original release but was not included on the cassette release because of timing restrictions.
After the initial success of the first three vinyl albums Jade proved to have a difficult gestation. The music for a start was very different from anything Boddy had composed before and was embracing the new disciplines of MIDI sequencing ( Steinberg Pro24 on Atari 1040 ) and sampling ( Akai S900 ) which enabled him to get away from the synthesiser textures of his previous releases into a sonic world of ethnic and eastern influences. This led to a licensing deal with an American record company for his first CD release. However despite record advances and everything looking positive the deal simply didn't go ahead. With no release in sight the decision was taken to release Jade on cassette rather than see it disappear altogether so a signed and numbered limited edition of 350 copies was issued. This was never a satisfactory state of affairs so when Boddy decided to resurrect his private label in 1992 Jade was the first release on CD so that the music could be heard as it was originally intended.
