REVIEW FROM WWW.METAL-OBSERVER.COM:
It's turned into something pretty rare that a band has 7 years between formation and release of their debut-album, as here with TWYSTER from Western Germany, who have recorded their debut "Lunatic Siren" under the watchful eyes of the Midas Twins.
Located somewhere between Melodic and Power Metal, the quintet does not swim with the big tidal wave, but basically sounds a bit different than the masses. Further they differ through the fact that with Coco they have a front-girl. No, do not fear, not another operatic voice, but a lady, who has a deeper voice with quite some power (reminding me a bit of Doro Pesch every now and then), and reminds me a bit of the voice of LEFT HAND SOLUTION-fronter Marianna Holmberg with her dark timbre.
That they do not play it safe, meaning following the current trend, shows the denouncement of keyboards and the use of Hard Rock-elements in their sound, which sounds somewhat different again as they consciously take away some heaviness and do not care, if they slip from somebody's pre-fabricated stencil, which I take down as very positive.
And besides really good tracks as "May-Day", "Twyster", "Don't Break The Silence" or the ballad "The Wild Hearts" we also get a cover-version of the a-ha-classic "The Sun Always Shines On TV", which is rocking, but partly does not fully capture the feeling of the original (and didn't anybody cover that one already?).
Altogether a good debut, which mostly can convince, but still has some room for improvement, still I'd recommend genre-fans to check out "Lunatic Siren". (Online October 30, 2002)
