Nicky Lee — американский кореец, родившийся и выросший в Лос-Анджелесе, но добившийся популярности на Тайване (где он, собственно, не первый год живёт) и в Южной Корее. Nicky Lee is a Los Angeles-born Korean American who now makes his home in Taipei. Lee is no stranger to music, and has been making music since he was 16 and launched his own solo career in 2005. Since arriving on the music scene, he has gained a fanbase in both South Korea and Taiwan, had his songs used in the movie Forbidden Kingdom starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li, and won the 2007 Golden Melody Award (Taiwan’s equivalent of the Grammys) for “Best Male Singer” and Channel V’s “Best Male Artist” award in 2010. Without a doubt, Lee definitely has a passion and talent that his critics and fans recognize.

But even with a number of accomplishments under his belt already, Lee’s success has not been achieved without struggle. Moving around from Los Angeles to Korea, he was discovered in church when he was 17. While there, he joined a group called “Voice” – unfortunately the group disbanded soon after due to diverging goals of various members. Lee then returned to the U.S., where he began working with producer Jae Chong, whom he still has a close relationship with today.

When Lee moved from Los Angeles to Taiwan he got his first “big break” when he met Jeff Huang of the Taiwanese pop group Machi. Huang invited him to join and perform at shows with the group. The difficulties of being rejected by every record company, based largely on his appearance (many argued that he did not have the right image to be successful in the industry at the time), was heartbreaking, but he continued to fight on defiantly at the encouragement of Huang. On top of this, Lee also had to balance the difficulty of adjusting to a new country and learning Mandarin. But his perseverance has paid off, which is evident now, and we have Lee’s own determination and Huang’s confidence in him to thank for bringing to the world a new, and very talented musician.
