Drona Parva is the solo guise of Nemo Birdstrup, who runs the brilliant Time-Lag label. Drona Parva is a sonic whirlwind of analog sounds, mixed in a bowl and baked in a cosmic oven. "Salvia Door" is an absolutely beautiful release in every way - musically and visually. The waves through which "Salvia Door" moves keep things warm and alive. These improvisations are archaic and simple, but it's within that context that beauty is born. Most impressive are the acoustic pieces, "Hollow Breath" parts 1-3. Birdstrup generally shies away from such a stripped down approach, but he flourishes within it. The first part is hopeful and enchanting; the second part hides a sense of loss; and the third is reflective. Put them together and you have a memorable listening experience in spades. The other tracks are great too, especially the 12 minute title track. It spits fire with its distorted synthesizer crawl, but is tethered to earth by various chimes. Once you make it through the dead wood and emerge from the other side unscathed, everything looks bigger and brighter than ever. It is a revelation. "Salvia Door" is a wonderful release from an underrated artist. And if the music wasn't good enough, each one of these LPs comes in a hand-drawn sleeve by Nemo himself.
