Called "one of the great voices of today," Alexis Cole has been compared to classic jazz singers such as Sarah Vaughan and Anita O'Day. Her luxurious voice and innovative interpretations make her an instant favorite with audiences of all ages. Cole is the recipient of a Swing Journal Gold Disk award, and was a winner of the NY Jazzmobile and Montreux Jazz Festival vocal competitions, and a finalist of the Sarah Vaughan Competition. She records for Motéma Music, NY, Chesky Records, NY and Venus Records, Japan. Her nine recordings, which feature musical luminaries such as Fred Hersch, Eric Alexander, Matt Wilson, Harry Pickens, Don Braden and Pat LaBarbara, have received high praise in the jazz press and are spun on radio world-wide. In addition to her many performances at top jazz venues like Dizzy's Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland, The Jazz Standard, Blues Alley, and Billboard Live, she's also performed at Avery Fisher Hall and the Kennedy Center and had been a featured soloist with the Boston Pops and NY Philharmonic. Alexis studied voice and piano at the University of Miami and William Paterson University, and holds a Masters of Music from Queens College. She has also trained in Indian Classical singing at the Jazz India Vocal Institute in Mumbai. She is an adjunct professor in Jazz Voice at City College and SUNY Purchase. She teaches privately at her home studio in Westchester, and performs and conducts master classes around the world.

The darkly alluring, deep-toned voice that embraces these timeless melodies from the parlour song era and Tin Pan Alley days (roughly 1910 to the early 1920s) belongs to the wonderful Alexis Cole.

This time out, she goes further back in time with her quartet of guitarist Saul Rubin, saxophonist-clarinetist Dan Block, bassist Pat O'Leary and drummer Phil Stewart to a more genteel time when sheet music was the most common method of dissemination of popular tunes. With her relaxed style, clear articulation, unhurried, conversational approach and all-knowing sense of cool, Cole and her crew strike a swinging accord on nuggets like "Ain't We Got Fun," "Bimini Bay," "Whip-poor-will," the buoyantly swinging title track and ten other tunes from yesteryear in this engaging retro revue. Everything goes down nice 'n' easy on this luxurious outing, and Alexis delivers with timeless charm from track to track.
