PanRam's sophomore release, Rats is certainly one of the more rare discs in my collection. This German metal band sounds like a mixture of Queensryche, Crimson Glory and a little bit of Metal Church all rolled into one band.
Hard Rock Hideout

Guitarist Ricci Tessalla plays like a madman on this record. His excellent guitar work is a reason to pick up this record all by itself. The instrumental track Break One makes me wonder why I haven't heard this guitar virtuoso before.

Singer Jack Steen has very good vocal range, but not even a great singer can save average sounding songs, and the song writing on Rats is definitely lacking. When playing through this disc, I keep waiting for a stand out song, and the best moment I can find is the instrumental, Break One. Pack Bites The Last would have to be second. Sadly enough, after spinning this one a couple of times, the band comes across as a second hand Queensryche.

The bottom line is PanRam may be one of the more obscure acts of the 90's and Rats won't do anything to change that.
